Dr. Matthew Blackwood

GIS Specialist, West Virginia Department of Agriculture

Matthew J. Blackwood grew up in Charleston, WV where he continues to live with his family. He earned his B.S. in Telecommunications at Ohio University in two-and-a-half years. Two years later, he added an MBA from Virginia Tech to his resume. Not satisfied with just one graduate degree, he continued his studies at what is now Marshall University Graduate College and earned an M.S. in Environmental Science. This degree laid the foundation for his PhD in Environmental Design and Planning from Virginia Tech. For the last ten years he has worked with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture where he is currently the GIS Specialist. His hobbies include photography, mountain biking, and chasing his three kids, Evan, Ellen, and Elliott with his wife, Julie.
